Description
Intended use:
EuroProxima Plus Lactoferrin Fast is a competitive enzyme immunoassay for screening and quantitative analysis of lactoferrin in various matrices.
General Information:
Lactoferrin (LF) is an 80 kDa glycoprotein of the transferrin family capable of binding and transferring iron (Fe3+ ions). It is expressed in most biological fluids and is a major component of the mammalian innate immune system. Its protective effects range from direct antimicrobial activities against a large panel of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites, to anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities. Lactoferrin is found in mucosal secretions, urine and plasma. The highest concentration of human lactoferrin is found in milk and colostrum. In bovine milk the lactoferrin concentration varies from 0.05 to 0.5 g/L. Lactoferrin plays a key role in the defense mechanisms of lactating animals’mammary glands. The milk lactoferrin concentration is a helpful indicator for the stage of lactation, for mastitis and for intramammary infection in dairy cows.
After the European Food Safety Authority approved bovine lactoferrin as novel food ingredient in 2012, the demand for this substance has exploded due to the application in infant powder milk, especially in China.
EuroProxima Lactoferrin Fast ELISA is a competitive enzyme immunoassay based on antibodies directed against lactoferrin. The test is validated with infant milk powders from different sources.
