Description

Intended use:

The VitaFast® Inositol microtiter plate test is a microbiological method for the quantitative determination of total inositol (added and native inositol) in food, animal feed and in pharmaceutical products. The microbiological test system is in accordance with the international norms.

General Information:

Inositol is extracted from the sample and the extract is diluted. The diluted extract and the inositol assay medium are pipetted into the wells of a microtiter plate which is coated with Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The growth of Saccharomyces cerevisiae is dependent on the supply of inositol. Following the addition of inositol as a standard or as a compound of the sample, the bacteria grow until the inositol is consumed. Saccharomyces cerevisiae belongs to the yeast bacteria, and has an absolute growth requirement for the vitamin B6. Thus, this organism is ideal for quantification of pyridoxin in food and dietary supplements. As a group, the yeast bacteria are good candidates for vitamin analysis due to their genetic stability (resistance to undergo mutation), simple metabolic requirements, ease of maintenance and general safety as a non-pathogenic organism.

Benefits:

  • The test system is very robust and well suited for routine analysis.
  • The VitaFast® test kits feature uniform procedures across the product line.
